Meet Richard
Richard F. Egan grew up in the Fox Lake area in northern Illinois where his father was a truck driver and member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Rich was a standout football player in high school and a scholarship student at the University of St. Francis. Rich graduated from Kent Law School where he won the CALI Award (highest grade) in Trial Advocacy.
Rich obtained an $8.25 million dollar settlement in a medical malpractice case after a week of trial, a $2.7 million dollar verdict in a trucking accident case, and a $1.25 million dollar verdict in a lawsuit involving a fall off a ladder. Rich also obtained a $2.5 million dollar settlement for a 63-year-old truck driver injured when a pallet fell from a forklift on him, $1.75 million for a 45-year-old schoolteacher who sustained full thickness burns during a pedicure procedure, $1.5 million for a 48-year-old truck driver who was struck head-on resulting in a C4-7 posterior cervical fusion, $1.35 million for a 49-year-old electrician burned by an arc flash, $1.15 million for a 41-year-old tuck pointer who fell off a ladder and sustained a shoulder injury, $1.0 million for a client who lost his eye when a municipal light pole fell on his vehicle, $815,000 for a 41-year-old truck driver struck broadside by a delivery truck resulting in a cervical anterior fusion, and $740,000 for a 55-year-old truck driver struck by a defendant entering the expressway resulting in a cervical fusion two years after the collision.
In 2022, Rich obtained a $540,000 verdict in DeKalb County for an auto accident case. In 2011, Rich obtained a $505,000 jury verdict for a client who was hit by a taxi cab. The $505,000 jury verdict was ten times more than the offer and it exceeded the policy limits by over $150,000.
Rich has had several other notable results in his years at our firm, including a $600,000 settlement for an intoxicated passenger who fell asleep on a METRA train and subsequently injured herself while trying to exit, $310,000 for an electrician who fell off a ladder on a job-site, $300,000 for a delivery driver who injured his knee while delivering a package, and a $100,000 jury verdict against Pace Bus Service in a highly contested case.
Rich has also successfully argued cases before the Illinois Appellate Courts, namely Lurgio v. Commonwealth Edison, 394 Ill. App. 3d 957 (1 Dist. 2009) and Alton v. Hintzscke, 73 Ill. App. 3d 708 (3 Dist. 2007). Rich is a member of the Young Irish Fellowship Club on Chicago and served on the Judicial Evaluation Committee for the Chicago Bar Association. In 2014,
Rich was named as a 40 under Forty to watch in Illinois law. This recognition is given to the best young lawyers in Illinois. In 2015, Rich was selected as an Emerging Lawyer by LeadingLawyers, a distinction bestowed upon only the top 2% of lawyers under 40 years old or practicing less than 10 years are awarded. Rich has been named a SuperLawyers® Rising Star since 2011. Rich currently resides in Chicago.
