Frequently Asked Questions

Are Consults Free?
YES!
Why Do Cases Take Longer?
The American court system is complex, and every case — including yours — deserves careful attention. To pursue the best possible outcome, we need time to gather records, conduct depositions, and, in some cases, prepare for trial. There are thousands of cases moving through the system and only so many available court dates each year. We understand the process can feel slow at times, but please know we’re working diligently on your behalf every step of the way.
How Long Will My Case Take?
Every case is different. A straightforward car accident may resolve more quickly than a complex medical malpractice claim. On average, personal injury cases can take anywhere from 20 to 30 months to reach resolution, depending on the facts, legal issues, and court scheduling.
How Much Will It Cost to Retain An Attorney?
At Murphy Carter, our clients come first. If we take your case, you won’t pay anything upfront. We work on a contingency fee basis — meaning we only get paid if we secure a settlement or verdict for you. If there’s no recovery, you owe us nothing. It’s that simple.
Do I Need to Hire An Attorney Now Or Should I Wait?
In most cases, yes—the sooner you hire an attorney, the better your chances of a successful outcome. Acting quickly helps preserve critical evidence, secure witness statements, and protect your legal rights from the start. Delays can weaken your case, especially in situations like hit-and-run accidents, where time-sensitive information is essential.
Can I Get A Loan Prior to Resolving My Lawsuit?
Your attorney cannot loan you money, except to advance or pay necessary case costs—that’s an ethical rule for all lawyers. However, there are private companies that offer lawsuit funding or “pre-settlement loans.” These often come with very high interest rates, so they should be a last resort. If you choose to pursue this option, our firm can cooperate with the funding company to provide any required case information on your behalf.
